Re: Throwing things
Fri, October 7, 2005 - 11:01 AMI've tried tossing and catching a kettlebell and a clubbell (one at a time, not both at the same time). I've also tried tossing and catching bags of mung beans/BBs. Fun stuff and good grip workout. -

Sat, October 8, 2005 - 11:56 AMWhat do you do when they have a gun? Distract them with your Skewdriver records? -

Re: Throwing things
Sat, October 8, 2005 - 2:33 PMuh, no, I'm not a neo-nazi. If I was I wouldn't want to throw republicans off a roof, duh. -

Re: Throwing things
Mon, October 10, 2005 - 2:37 PMMaybe you should consider becoming a neo nazi. Your description of them sound a lot more sociable then where you're at. -

Re: Throwing things
Mon, October 10, 2005 - 6:33 PMYou should read some of your previous posts on other threads and note the anti-social tone.
I was just jokin', take it easy dude.

Re: Throwing things
Sat, October 8, 2005 - 1:48 PMYeah, this seems a most excellent exercise to build mighty hand strength; like plyometrics for your shit-hooks! Jim Brookfield really seems to dig it.
I was more referrin' to, like, sports and stuff. Hammer toss, discus, throwing the big log around (caber), weight toss for height, etc. Might be fun to see if I can turn my strength towards a sporting activity that doesn't involve beating the crap out of my fellow man.

Naw, that can be fun as well, but I figure them rocks and logs and stuff are lookin' for trouble too; tricky bastards.

Re: Throwing things
Fri, December 2, 2005 - 1:44 PMI did Caber Toss and Hammer Throw in the Scottish Games for a couple years. I am out of shape now, but used to do pretty well. I got a perfect 12 O'clock on the Caber Toss once. I am still proud of that. -

Re: Throwing things
Fri, December 2, 2005 - 1:56 PMWow. Impressive. How much does the caber weigh? I know its pretty heavy -

Re: Throwing things
Mon, December 5, 2005 - 9:44 AMThey are all different. They range from around 100 to 150 pounds on the high end to around 75 to 80 on the low end. You won't know until you pick it up.

Re: Throwing things
Fri, December 2, 2005 - 3:58 PMAny training advice? It's not like I have too many cabers lying around my apartment. I've been swinging and cleaning some heavy kettlebells; I figure the swing is closest to the actual motion I can get without a big old log.

Re: Throwing things
Mon, December 5, 2005 - 9:49 AMGet a 12' 2x4 and practice the motion, balance, and timing with that until you get it right. Then go to a 12' 4x4, and then ask around for scrap telephone pole from your local telephone company corporation yard. That's what I did. I also had a HUGE area to practice in.
Practice in loose soil and NOT on any patch of grass you don't want torn up and pitted with holes. You want loose soil so you can get your fingers under the end. But you will have to figure out your lifting, timing, and throwning style on your own.
In the beginning, don't worry about aiming. It's hard enough getting it over on the throw. Feel the weight and learn to do the rotation push at the right time. In the end, no one can show you how to do it other than the rudiments. You will need to figure out the timing and such on your own.

Re: Throwing things
Mon, December 5, 2005 - 9:52 AMAnd for the hammer toss, just get a hold of some big ass sledgehammers, or if you HAVE welding skills/availability, then you can weld chain to a large sledge head.

Clubs and Hammers
Wed, February 1, 2006 - 2:26 PMOf some relation, Torque Athletic ( torqueathletic.com )offers a series of War Hammers and are the manufacturers of the Clubbell. You're likely to make more progress with the Clubbell, as there is far more information and instruction available on it's use through rmax.tv and circularstrengthmag.com/forum .
